We are starting a wonderful campaign to raise funds & awareness to support Palestine’s greatest asset: Its people. I hope you will help us reach our goal of $150,000.

By supporting people you help them do great things. This amazing potential is at the heart of our campaign. We are raising funds & awareness to run our kindergarten, Zahrat Al-Yasmeen & to increase food production in UN-run camps.

People in Palestine are smart, committed & hard working. But, they are dehumanized at every turn. Apartheid conditions keep them caged behind walls, denied freedom of movement & subject to arbitrary arrest, torture & death. We work in the West Bank but know that the genocidal conditions in Gaza are much worse. As we support them, we also support work in the West Bank.

Supporting people is all about building a better future.

Goal #1. Invest in children’s education & well being.

Children in UN-run refugee camps in the West Bank lack good quality, affordable education. Working with the community we started Zahrat Al-Yasmeen kindergarten in the UN-Aida camp. It serves 2 camp communities, enrolls 75 students, employs 8 trauma-informed teachers & 2 administrators & provides a bright, airy, safe place to learn. It costs approximately $145,000 to run the school for 1 year. We want to cover over 50% of that cost ($75,000) through this fundraiser.

It costs $55,000 to run the existing food program for 1 year. We have an expansion plan to increase the number of rooftop gardens by between 30-50 in Aida & Azza camps. This will cost approximately $50,000. Our goal is to fund 75% of the running & expansion costs of our work in food ($75,000) through the campaign. Here is what we can do together.

  • Double trainees (from 60 to 120)

  • Expand trained employees (from 1 to 3)

  • Increase women in training (from 20 to 50)

  • Increase young people in training (from 30 to 60)

  • Increase kindergarteners in food learning (from 50 to 75)

  • Increase food production (from 208 kg to 2000 kg per year)

  • Train chronically-ill patients (from 155 to 300)

  • Advance local agricultural growing technologies

Together, We Can Do This!

Usually, students pay fees of around $600 to attend. For 2 years, 1for3 has paid most of those fees because parents can’t. With unemployment estimated to be over 60% in UN-run camps due to Israel’s blockade, parents are faced with the choice of food or education. We don’t think they should have to make that choice.

Goal #2. Expand food security & sovereignty.

Palestinian refugee camps are surrounded by Israeli military checkpoints & concrete walls. Residents are exposed to tear gas, military violence & abductions. Any growing space for crops has been taken from them. But, they, too, need fresh food to combat diabetes, community to decrease hypertension & cheaper food to overcome Israeli monopolies. We support 3 hydroponic gardens, 45 rooftop gardens, 50 micro growing towers & 2 soil-based agriculture programs. We also support training for women & young people.

Kindergarten Has Started!

Classes have started in our preschool, Zahrat Al-Yasmeen located in the UN-run Aida refugee camp. Despite living in dehumanizing conditions: caged behind walls, no freedom of movement, economic precarity & enhanced trauma, the children are ready to learn! Like kids everywhere, the start of school is a major life event. Filled with excitement & a little fear. The team at Zahrat Al-Yasmeen know this, meet children where they are at & create a great learning environment.

Zahrat Al-Yasmeen is made possible financially by thousands of donors. They are united in advancing high-quality education that starts young lives off well for a lifetime of learning. A local Boston foundation, the Jinny Chalmers Fund for Education Justice, has supported training for teachers to help them support children with trauma. Thank you.

Environment Summer Camp for Teenagers.

The summer camp took place in early August & was led by the Health 4 Palestine & environment programs teams. It lasted for 1 week. During that time, you could see the bursts of creativity & positive energy in the youth. They have endured so much & continue to suffer on a daily basis with the ongoing Israeli military occupation & genocide in Gaza. Seeing tens of young people walking the hills, sitting under trees & learning about flora & fauna is amazing! These teenagers are usually confined to their 2 refugee camp locations, which have almost no green spaces or nature.

Health

Health 4 Palestine (H4P) is our program that supports community health. In it, 26 trained community health workers (CHWs) work in 5 camps with over 700 patients. Most care focuses on treating chronic diseases & trauma.

Environment Food

Our work in food encompasses the construction & operation of three community hydroponic gardens & a number of micro growing towers. We provide training in hydroponics. Women & young people make up the core participants in our food work. Our goal is to advance Palestinian food sovereignty & support healthy lifestyles.

Environment Water

We established potable water quality monitoring programs, built two community cisterns, replaced 30 rooftop water tanks to safeguard household water supplies & trained refugees to conduct independent water testing that resulted in upgraded infrastructure improvements. We also led four delegations to build water testing labs & train testing technicians.

Education

Zahrat Al-Yasmeen kindergarten.

Since 2019, 1for3 has brought together Palestinian & US educators to support child-focused learning. Together, they build curricula, teaching methods & new offerings of student support. Opened in 2021 & located in the UN-run Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, West Bank, Zahrat Al-Yasmeen kindergarten provides a great pre-school education for 50 children from two UN-run camps.
